Westeros. If you read my last post you know I’ve been obsessing over Game of Thrones lately, and IT’S JUST SO INTERESTING EVEN THO THIS IS CHEATING BC I ONLY WATCHED THE SERIES BUT THEY ARE BOOKS SO 

Safiya and Iseult’s Friendship- Who is your favourite dynamic duo?

Is this really a question? Who else?

Merik- Which character is the ultimate hunk?

Four, from Divergent. Tris’ vajayjay always semeed to explode around him. Same goes for the fangirls over Theo James.

Kullen- Who is your favourite sidekick?

A tough one… Sidekicks are a tricky business. I would say the Colonel, Miles’ sidekick in Looking for Alaska, was pretty cool.

Aeduan- Who is your favourite mysterious or villainous character?

Jaqen  H’gar from Game of Thrones. I still have no idea just what he is. GoT in general is full of mysterious characters that I’m really excited to dive into as I read the books.

Aether- A book that you can’t stop thinking about?

Back when I read 13 Reasons Why, it clung to my mind for days and days. To be truthful, I don’t remember much of the actual story, I just remember the emotions it sent me through. The TV show is coming out soon and I can’t wait to rediscover the story.

Air- A book that you had low expectations for that completely blew you away?

I have to say Game of Thrones again! I resisted reading this book for ages. My best friend tried to force me but I just could not swallow it. But I gave the show a try, and I was BLOWN. AWAY. And I’m still obsessing over this masterpiece. I’m currently reading and thoroughly enjoying the first book!

Earth- A book that you always go back to?

I’m pretty sure this one’s universal – Harry Goddayum Potter. It feels like more people have reread the books than those who have read it only once. 

Fire- A book where the hype spread quickly?

I’ve never heard of a book that got more hype in recent years than Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Many loved it, many hated it, but everyone was talking about it. It was the sequel to a literary phenomenon.

Void- Recommend a scary/mysterious read.

Robert Galbraith’s Cormoran Strike series. (A.K.A J.K. Rowling’s under cover follow up series to Harry Potter). I can only vouch for the first book, the Cuckoo’s Calling, but I’m certain the follow up books are equally as dark, funny, intriguing, creepy, clever and mysterious as this one. It’s such a departure from the magical saga, but it’s no less captivating. A good mystery is one where you find yourself interested in the backstories, not just the identity of the murderer. 

Water- Name a book that flowed nicely.

I can’t remember a book flowing as nice as the Philosopher’s stone. There are just no dead moments. Everything was interesting. We didn’t have a prior idea of where the story might take us. There was a steady buildup of events leading up to the ultimate face off. It really is such a well written book. Children literature was SHOOK.

FIRST TASK: MAGICALLY MUSICAL – BLOGGERS’ HOUSE CUP

IT IS THE FIRST DAY OF CLASSES!

STUDENTS SCURRY THROUGH THE HALLS, GATHERING AROUND THE DASHBOARDS TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY HAVE THROWN THEMSELVES INTO.

FIRST TASK: MAGICALLY MUSICAL

You and your Housemates will decide upon one song. Any song. Your Head of House will make the final decision and report the song back to me.

The song you pick will then become the theme song to your house throughout this competition.

But wait! You’re not gonna sneak away that easily.

You and your team mates are going to change the lyrics of the song to fit your house.

No holds barred: you can come up with anything you want, from boasting your house values to roasting the other houses…

 

And the best part is (at least for me it is)…

You are going to be recording this song!

Nevermind your singing skills, you need to give it LIFE. You can either pick a member to sing the whole song, make it a duet, assign each part to each member, or even get a friend of yours to sing it.

The song must be uploaded to any video platform you feel comfortable with, and will be accompanied by a video. The video can be anything you want, from a slideshow to a lyric video to an actual music video.

Seeing as this is your first task and I want you to do your best, you will have ten days to submit your entry.

Throughout the competition, the tasks will be judged by a panel of independent judges who will be completely unbiased.

Points will be given for the song choice, the cleverness of the lyrics, the creativity of the video, and the presentation as a whole.

Points will be distributed as such:

1st Place: 50 points

2nd Place: 45 points

3rd Place: 35 points

4th Place: 30 points

DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH, 11:59 PM EST.

ANY HOUSE THAT FAILS TO SUBMIT BEFORE THE DEADLINE WILL HAVE ITS TASK POINTS REDUCED BY HALF, REGARDLESS OF POSITION.

ANY HOUSE THAT FAILS TO SUBMIT IN TWO DAYS’ TIME WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE TASK.

‘Learn?’ says Elm. ‘LOL. I’m here to win that cup!’

‘Very well… Then… I guess we’ll eat!’ declares the Headmawkward Blogger.

‘NO!’ they all cry out.

‘Is this old dude for real?’ snaps  Selfie.

MATH: A BOOK THAT HAS TWO CHARACTERS THAT EQUAL PERFECTION

Paper Towns- John Green

This was a really difficult one to pick. I don’t feel like there are many books where two characters just clicked together. The closest thing is Harry Potter, but that’s a rare exception because EVERYONE blends well together and complement each other. You couldn’t single out just two people.
So I thought for this one I’d pick Paper Towns, because what’s special about it is that Margo and Quentin, taken separately, aren’t really likeable and interesting in my eyes. But the two of them together, especially in the first part of the book, complement each other really well.

ENGLISH: A BOOK THAT SHOULD BE A MODERN CLASSIC

I mean… Do I really need an explanation for this? It’s the most obvious answer. The most perfect creature on earth basically giving you a free coupon for winning life in every aspect. Okay, it’s more of a 19.99$ coupon but it’s basically nothing when you consider all the things it brings you.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

This book captivated me in all the right ways. I could not put it down – in bed, in class, even between breaks during my theater practice! I have rush-read books before but it just didn’t feel the same because both were on digital format (I’m talking about Insurgent and The Good Girls – both great compelling books). I read it so quickly, not for the sake of fast reading, but because I enjoyed every second of it.

MUSIC: A BOOK THAT REMINDS YOU OF A SONG

The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling – Dollhouse by Melanie Martinez

I had fun picking this one because every book I think of, a playlist forms in my mind. Every single book has a musical connection. But I picked this one solely because of the theme similarities. Now I still haven’t read this book, I’m looking forward to it in the summer, but it talks about a town that looks pristine from the outside but is rotten and corrupted from the inside – exactly what Dollhouse is about, but with families.

For the final quote I chose a quote from a Lana Del Rey song I adore, called Ride. You can find it on Youtube and take a listen, the video itself is breathtaking.

As much as I like to admit that I’m different, I’m ‘Awkward’, I don’t fit in, I’m strange, I’m crazy, I’d be lying if I said it’s not mentally challenging.
I love how I am, but still, I’m getting tired of not being what society needs me to be. I’m tired of not being into what everyone else seems to be into. I’m tired of looking at other people and always feeling jealous that I don’t get to have a normal life, or whatever it is they have that I feel I lack.
Why do I have to be like this? What would have happened if I just gave in and tried to do the things I’m supposed to do, like the things I’m supposed to like, act the way I’m supposed to act…
It’s exhausting. Mentally exhausting.
Am I running away from my thoughts? Am I denying that I’m ‘fucking crazy‘? Will I keep driving and running until I start loosing my mind for good?
Or will I just accept it?

Today I chose a quote that you typically wouldn’t find in blog posts like these.
It’s extremely popular in the stan world, but obviously unknown to casual non-crazy people. As the Awkward (Very) Blogger, I felt it’s my duty to introduce this piece of immaculate shade into the blogosphere.

Now if you’re confused as to why this is an iconic quote, let me tell you a nice little tale…
During Mariah Carey and Tommy Mottola’s divorce, he turned real nasty and basically sabotaged her upcoming album. He stole samples and intrumentals and gave them to Jennifer Lopez who included a lot of them in her album which was released before Mariah’s. Because of this mess, Mariah had to rerecord and basically rework her album just weeks before its release, which made an even bigger mess and the album was a disappointment. Mariah did NOT deal well with this, she had a huge breakdown and went into rehab because of it.
The gif/quote is from an interview where the interviewer asked her what she thought about J-Lo – obviously after the incident – and she was basically like ‘who?’
To this day it’s one of pop culture’s finest, shadiest moments and you can still see the phrase ‘I don’t know her’ being used by fanboys everywhere from twitter to tumblr to fan forums whenever someone irrelevant comes into the conversation.
Mariah’s apparently not over this since just last month a paparazzo asked her about J-Lo again and she said with a mocking smile ‘I still don’t know her!’
Ah Mariah. Queen of shade.

I was tagged by Keira to do this. Thank you so much!
If any of you happened to be around my blog during last November, you might remember that this is not my first time doing this challenge, and that it ended very, very badly (wait what am I saying why would you remember a random post from my blog dating 6 months lol @ me).

Anyway, I’m glad I got the opportunity to do it again. Hopefully with no twist endings and excessive swearing this time.

Today I will continue where I left off. As I was planning on posting Harry Potter quotes last time but never got to post them, here’s the first quote:

It is extremely hard to choose from the sea of excellent Harry Potter quotes, but this one has always had a special place in my heart. Maybe because I see it everyday, and try to live by it. Hypocrisy is everywhere; a man will go to huge lengths to please his equals, the people he thinks ‘matter’, but will disregard or belittle anyone he thinks is below his ‘level’. I even see it in high school. How these self-appointed popular jerks (and I say jerks because there are popular kids who are truly friendly and deserve that title) can will themselves to ignore and act as though the rest of their peers don’t exist, I will never understand.

You don’t have to be condescending to make yourself ‘above’ someone. The way some people treat their maids is apalling, and I’m sad to say I know a lot of them. The african maids in my country aren’t even mistreated; they’re not treated. They’re taken care of like a house pet. I always try to just engage them in conversation, talk to them as fellow human beings, because that’s just what they are. Their human lives don’t have ro stop just because they travelled to a different country to earn a modest living.

I’m rambling and maybe straying off topic here, but that issue is close to my heart.

2016 Reading Challenge (ya rite)

So.

If by any chance, you were once lost on my blog, and in a desperate attempt to leave you accidentally clicked on the wrong link, you might come across this post. But according to my stats that only got 1 view so there’s a really good chance that you didn’t. Great job!

Anyway. That post was about the 2015 Reading Challenge. I was trying to complete it, and, well… See how much I had completed back then?

It’s exactly the same now! Wiiiii

So yeah, I haven’t really read much (AT ALL) these past few months. It’s desolating, I know, but I mean I just -SORRY I REALLY HAVE NO EXCUSE

I really want that to change this year, so I’m gonna be doing the 2016 Challenge!

I can already hear your sneers and ‘ya rites’. Well, I’m kinda doing these too. BUT  I can’t not try!

So currently I am reading both The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and Deathly Hallows. Yes. Deathly Hallows. The book I started two months ago, that I promised myself I’d not drop like I did last year.

I WILL NOT GIVE UP ON YOU, DEATHIE! I WILL READ YOU I WILL I SWEAR

So now I’m focusing on finishing it, then The Alchemist, and THEN I can get started with my challenge.

If you saw the picture on my 2015 post, you might have noticed that I cheated a bit. By cheated I mean that I ticked off like 5 categories for every book, as long as it fit. Well, I don’t want to do that again!

So I’m going to make a list of all the books i’m going to read this year, and what categories they’ll fit. Of course, I’m missing books from many categories, but that is totally fine for just now because 1) I still haven’t checked the library, 2) there’s the Bookyard where I’ll probably find everything I’m missing and 3) in case I don’t, there’s still BetterWorldBooks. It’s an online shop for buying books of all sorts for very cheap prices and most importantly they have FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE! That’s a deal-breaker for me (and the only reason I can’t shop at any other store because their shipping prices are often higher than the book’s price). I still haven’t tried it because well I’ve never online shopped but I’m definitely willing to give it a try. Well that’s if my parents stop believing that the internet is out to steal their money and finally agree to insert their credit card number. Ugh.

I am therefore going to create a page (here is said page) to start tracking my progress. I hope the odds will be in my favor with this (shameful tasteless reference) and if not, meh. I tried.

I guess it’s the amount of albums and movies and books that drop during this time of year (BUT I CAN’T ENJOY THEM BECAUSE SCHOOL HAHAHAHAHA FML)

What is your favorite food?

When I was little, it was always pizza. Then I had a bad pizza once and turned to hamburgers. Now I don’t really have a favorite, I love everything, but burgers have a special place in my heart. And fat.

Have you heard 5 Seconds Of Summer’s new album?

Nah. I just can’t like them. ‘She’s Kinda ahot’ makes me cringe, and that’s just the title. 

Mustard or ketchup or both?

Depends, usually ketchup, sometimes both. (Nah really it’s just ketchup)

Windows all the way. Ah the memories.

Well that’s random… I don’t know much about these countries. In which am I least likely to meet attractive teenagers that make hate myself and shrivel up and cry?

Are you dressing up for Halloween? What are you going as?

Omfg you had nominated me before Halloween? I’m such a bad blogger.

We don’t celebrate Halloween, however we do celebrate St. Barabara’s which is like our version of Halloween. I don’t think I’ll dress up, though I wish I could be Harry.

What are you going to get your best friend for christmas?

Hmmmmm… There’s a chance they’ll read this (though doubt it because we have about 12 exams this week) so I’ll keep it to myself 🙂

What book would you recommend to a seven year old with a high reading ability?

Ironically, Matilda. I know, I know, she had a high reading ability herself and whatever but really, if a kid like her read the book they’ll feel special. It’s also a really sweet story. (once you take out the mom, the dad, the headmistress, you know)

Hairbrush or comb?

What’s the difference? 😅

Would you rather be the lawyer for someone who murdered someone or who participated in child trafficking?

I’d rather not be a lawyer thank you very much. If I had to chose, I guess it’s the first, because there are a billion ways this could have happened. Child trafficking, on the other hand, is just atrocious in any way you put it. 

On a lighter note, what is your favourite season?

Ugh, I’m like your mom. Don’t do favs. Every season has something I love and something I hate. I guess spring has the least stuff I hate so I’ll go with that. 

Duvet or blanket?

What’s a duvet? It sounds warm and fluffy so I’ll go with that. 

Painting of sketching?

I’m horrible at both, but painting is so fun. And squetshy.

Be able to write a poem or be able to write a book?

A BOOK! GOD I WISH.
