FIRST TASK: MAGICALLY MUSICAL – BLOGGERS’ HOUSE CUP

o3rlbex

IT IS THE FIRST DAY OF CLASSES!

STUDENTS SCURRY THROUGH THE HALLS, GATHERING AROUND THE DASHBOARDS TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY HAVE THROWN THEMSELVES INTO.

FIRST TASK: MAGICALLY MUSICAL

You and your Housemates will decide upon one song. Any song. Your Head of House will make the final decision and report the song back to me.

The song you pick will then become the theme song to your house throughout this competition.

But wait! You’re not gonna sneak away that easily.

You and your team mates are going to change the lyrics of the song to fit your house.

No holds barred: you can come up with anything you want, from boasting your house values to roasting the other houses…

And the best part is (at least for me it is)…

You are going to be recording this song!

Nevermind your singing skills, you need to give it LIFE. You can either pick a member to sing the whole song, make it a duet, assign each part to each member, or even get a friend of yours to sing it.

The song must be uploaded to any video platform you feel comfortable with, and will be accompanied by a video. The video can be anything you want, from a slideshow to a lyric video to an actual music video.

Seeing as this is your first task and I want you to do your best, you will have ten days to submit your entry.

Throughout the competition, the tasks will be judged by a panel of independent judges who will be completely unbiased.

Points will be given for the song choice, the cleverness of the lyrics, the creativity of the video, and the presentation as a whole.

Points will be distributed as such:

1st Place: 50 points

2nd Place: 45 points

3rd Place: 35 points

4th Place: 30 points

DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH, 11:59 PM EST.

ANY HOUSE THAT FAILS TO SUBMIT BEFORE THE DEADLINE WILL HAVE ITS TASK POINTS REDUCED BY HALF, REGARDLESS OF POSITION.

ANY HOUSE THAT FAILS TO SUBMIT IN TWO DAYS’ TIME WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE TASK.

REMINDER: ALL PLAYERS ARE REQUIRED TO REGISTER TO BLOGWARTS BOARDS!

If you haven’t already, make sure to:

  1. Visit blogwarts.boards.net,

    Register to the forum,

  2. Go to the Welcome thread,

  3. Follow the links to your House Common Rooms,

  4. Register A SECOND, SEPARATE registration to your House forum,

  5. Wait to be approved and start taking part in the task.

IF YOU APPLIED BUT YOUR NAME DOESN’T FIGURE HERE, LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS!

CLICK HERE TO REGISTER TO OUR NEW FORUM, BLOGWARTS BOARDS!

Blogwarts Boards is the forum where most of the House Cup will be taking place. In addition, Tasks and Results will be announced weekly both on this blog and on the forums.

A warm welcome awaits you in the Great Hall, and prefects will lead you to your respective Common Rooms, which means you will then have to register to your respective house forums. Applications will be reviewed by me, to make sure no students sneak into other houses’ common rooms!

ALL STUDENTS MUST REGISTER TO BLOGWARTS BOARDS AND APPLY FOR THEIR RESPECTIVE HOUSE FORUMS!

Enjoy your first few days at Blogwarts by holding discussions, chatting with friends and meeting new students. Everybody’s free to start up a thread in the Great Hall and get people talking, from Harry Potter, to any books or fandoms, to real life advice, to social debates.

On Monday, CLASSES OFFICIALLY BEGIN! Which means the respective house boards will open, the First Task will be revealed, and thus the race for the elusive House Cup will begin. Prepare yourselves for all kinds of wicked challenges and surprise minigames throughout the competition! The more active you are, the more points you will earn your house, and the better chance you have at WINNING THE HOUSE CUP!

Prefects and Heads of Houses are encouraged to grant House Points whenever they see a student deserves it. Worry not though, we won’t pull any Dumbledore-robs-Slytherin-from-their-House-Cup move à la Philosphers’ Stone. Any awarded (or deducted!) house points will be reported to me so that I can modify the leaderboards.

If you need any help with schoolwork, feel free to consult your house Prefect or Head of House. If they see it fit, they will pass it on to the Headmawkward Blogger, A.K.A me.

FOR ANY NEWCOMERS: IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO SIGN UP AND JOIN IN!

UNFORTUNATELY THE SORTING CEREMONY HAS ENDED. TO JOIN THE GAME, COMMENT BELOW.

HERE’S TO OUR FIRST SCHOOLYEAR FULL OF FUN, FRIENDSHIP AND MAGIC!

1 Year Blogaversary – THANK YOU!

Oh my God.
It’s been a year already.
Exactly one year ago, after months of wanting to, I finally went to WordPress and registered a blog. This blog.
And boy, has it been a ride since then.
I said it before, and I’ll say it again: you guys are the absolute sweetest people in the whole world. I can only dream of meeting people like you in my everyday life. Your comments have never failed to make me smile. If it weren’t for you, I’d have dropped this whole thing a few months in.
Writing my thoughts out, and especially knowing that they will be read by somebody, is such a liberating experience. I know I have you guys. Just look at my last few posts! Overwhelming support, even from those if you who are new to my blog! I posted the same thing on another forum, and all I got was a few likes. And that’s from people I interract with on a daily basis.
I know I have been posting less frequently in the last few months, but I am happy with the way things are. If I force myself to write posts I don’t feel like writing, this whole thing will become a chore, which it is NOT supposed to be. I want my blog to be a place I can escape to, not from.
And as I promised you, I AM planning a huge community game, and as I also promised, the announcement will be coming soon. Not Gaga soon. Soon soon. One-month-before-Hogwarts-traditionally-opens-its-doors soon 😉

(Edit: Apparently I registered my blog at 4:02 PM because WordPress just sent me an anniversary message! XD)

I loved sharing my life with you guys. And I know, one day, I’ll look back to these posts and be swept away by nostalgia and happy memories… Ah man.
Thank you. Thank you all for making this year a true revival for me. Thank you for being my friends. Thank you for proving to me that wonderful people like you do exist.
Thank you for reading.

I have a proposition for YOU, bloggeurz – Bloggers’ House Cup!

Hey yall! How are you doing?

Let’s get straight to the point.

Would you like to participate in a community game?

As you may know, I’ve been absent from the blogging world for quite a while. While most of you were evolving and growing your blogging connections, I was like not. That’s why I want to do something to compensate, get to know you all better and maybe bring this community together.

We’re doing something similar on another site I’m visiting (I talked about it in earlier posts) and I think it’d be perfect if we had a blogger version!

The name of da game: Bloggers’ House Cup.

Blogwarts School of WordCraft and Bloggery opens its doors for the first time to welcome all bloggers into its four Houses: Gryffindraft, Hufflepost, Ravenclick, and Slikerin. The Headmawkward Blogger will guide you through your entire school year, from your sorting ’til the House Cup ceremomy, where the best house will be crowned.

So basically, we’ll all be split into houses, and each week we’ll have tasks you’ll work on as a team. For communication, we’ll  create a forum for each house so that they can discuss their task progress, stay updated, or just chat 🙂 Each week the submissions will be ranked from best to worst and house points will be given accordingly. At the end of the competition, the house with the most points wins the title!

For this to work, we’ll have to get as many participants, of course. Whether you’re a blogger on any platform, or a reader, even if your siblings want to join! Let me know in the comments so that this event can start taking place. I’m so excited! 😀

Tag as many friends as you can. Share this. Spread the word!

The Blogger Recognition Award!

*GASPS*

*GASPS EVERYWHERE*

No, you’re not hallucinating. Your computer is not pranking you. Washing it won’t help.

I, the very awkward and procrastinating blogger, have finally dragged myself into doing my first award in like a decade.

NO, it’s not haughtiness, at ALL. Getting recognition by fellow bloggers and friends feels really amazing. And I feel terribly guilty for not posting many award posts. But both of these don’t compare to my astronomic feeling of laziness, which is why I keep postponing awards until it’s too shameful to get back to them.

NOT THIS TIME THO!

I’m forcing myself to do this instead of some other completely useless thing. And it’s not bad so far! Let’s do it YES

The Blogger Recognition Award!

So I was nominated by Bella for this award, thank you so much 😀

Rules:

  • Write a post to show your award.

blogger recognition

  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.

It was a hot summer day. I was begging my sisters, who happen to share a room with me in our summer house, to leave the lights on while they watched TV so I could peacefully read Harry Potter. They didn’t let me, and turned the lights off to piss me off. On my birthday. I got so pissed I turned on my laptop and began typing my first ever blog post, which you can still find on here. I didn’t think I was ever going to post that, because I didn’t even have a blog yet, but I desperately wanted to write my feelings out. The thought of someone reading them was fascinating, but terrifying at the same time. The next day, though, I said ‘why the fuck not’, created this here monument, and posted what I had written the previous day. Now here we are.

  • Give advice to new bloggers.

Socialize. That’s the key factor. Nobody would ever have found my blog if I didn’t explore WordPress looking for fellow bloggers to share with. Show your appreciation by reading content, liking and commenting, and they will very likely show that appreciation back. Blogging is a community, so don’t be shy, and join in 🙂

Also, keep writing. Keep posting. Don’t give up too easily. My first month or two of blogging, I barely got any likes on my posts and my first few comments were a huge deal. It picked up gradually from there; the point is that if I had stopped, I wouldn’t be here today, wouldn’t have met all ya amazing people, wouldn’t have achieved so much to be proud of. Perseverance is key, and it’ll be worth it in the end 😉

  • Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.

It really feels fuzzy and nice every time someone thinks of me and nominates me, so thank you Bella ❤ Check ha out by clicking on ha name

  • Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to.

Are u kidding

That’s where my laziness kicks in guys. Imma keep Bella’s noms. Reinforce them I guess? XD SORRYYYY I’ll just add in someone in place of my own name

How I made it to Choir! (Part 2)

Here is the last part of my story about how I made it to choir. It is long, but I wanted to tell it with all the details. Here’s where we left off:

image

I guess my panic was pretty obvious because Sister M said calmly ‘don’t worry, it’s alright, I just wanted to know why you were here.’
‘I just wanted to try out… For the experience… And my friend told me…’ I muttered. Mini was gonna pay for this.

She asked me what chant I had prepared, and for some reason I just stood there, frozen, apparently trying to think of something to sing other than the hymn I had been preparing for days. Why I did that is still I mystery but it sure as hell made me look like I just kind of wandered here by mistake and said ‘oh hey, I know what would be fun, I’ll try out for choir!’

At last, I regained reason and told her what I would be singing. She was going to accompany me with the piano, and she would stop playing at some point to see if I could continue singing with no music.

I was taken aback. I did not know that I would be singing over a piano, and I had never done it before. What if I went horribly off tune? Oh god oh god oh god.

Sister M started playing. I took a deep breath. Then I started singing.

Something strange happened then. It was as though a switch went off inside me. I didn’t know how or why, but suddenly, singing felt like the most natural thing in the world! I couldn’t believe how much better I sounded with the piano. It just seemed to flow out if me effortlessly. Not that I became some sort of Frank Sinatra, but I just thought ‘this is right.’ I started smiling. I almost caught myself laughing at many occasions and quickly stopped myself so that I don’t ruin the song.

I was then asked to do another song. I had not prepared for that. I didn’t even know all the words! I tried my best, and ended up just repeating the chorus, but that’s fine.

Next, I had to sing the notes that Sister M played on the piano. That was to see if I could get the notes right. Sure enough, I did pretty well.

Lastly, it was time for the vocal exercice, in which I have to sing ‘Mééééaaaaiiiiii’ on different – what, keys? I don’t know what these are called. But I know that it kicks up a note every time, and I have to sing it over and over until I can’t reach.

I found it quite fun, and I also had to stop myself laughing there, because it was kinda ridiculous, me standing there with my mouth wide open belting out this sound I only ever heard on Star Academy.

I didn’t reach too high. I guess I looked worried, because then the nun called in a boy who seemed to have been in choir for a long time. She did the same exercice with him, and he could reach the high notes I couldn’t. Was she just showing me that I’m not good enough? I wasn’t very pleased.

But then, she started lowering the notes, and he reached a point where he couldn’t go on. That’s when she asked me to pick up, and I did. It wasn’t hard at all. I kept going down until my voice was just a rumble. So it’s not about singing the highest you can after all.

I finished. She looked at me, and held out her hand.
‘Congratulations! You’re a Bass.‘ She said, smiling.
I took her hand disbelievingly. Is that it? I’m in?!
‘What’s a bass?’ I asked.
‘It’s your vocal type, it means you can sing the lower notes. They’re few here, so it’s great to have an addition.’

So that was it. I’m officially in. I felt so light, so relieved – I made it! How?! It was unreal. All my worries were pointless. Wow!!!

I immediately texted everyone. Told them I wasn’t accepted. Just to mess with them. Especially Mini.

I then started talking with Sister M and the other boy about myself. My grades, where I’m from, my hobbies… I said that I loved listening to music, and playing the piano, but only by ear. So she asked me if I could play and sing something. The first song that popped into my head was Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’. I played the chorus on the piano, rather nervously, because I had never done it in front of anyone before. For the song, I started to sing ‘Wide Awake’ by Katy Perry because I had sung it the day before on karaoke and felt good about it, but I didn’t feel good at all after a few notes so I changed my mind midway and sang ‘Dollhouse’ by Melanie Martinez instead. It was okayish. She noticed that I have a small lisp with the letter S, which I’ve had since I was little, and told me that I should have seen a doctor for it. I don’t think my parents really cared about that.

‘So when do I start?’ I asked.
‘Today. The lesson starts at 4’ she replied.
It was 3:30 now. I’ll wait. I was very excited.

When Mini came, I was standing alone outside, with a very fake frown. I assumed he had gotten my message, because he had an apologetic tone when he asked ‘what happened?’ Aww. After all, he did recommend me. I should be thanking him. Instead, I smiled and said ‘Bass.
‘Wait – really?! That’s great, I’m bass too! We’re only like 4 and there are so many tenors (I assumed tenors were the high-singers like that other boy). Sister M told me she’d kill me if I had brought in a new one.’

That was nice to hear. Maybe I wasn’t going to be a useless adition after all.

Moments later other chorists started arriving, and I could tell Mini was right because they seemed happy to know that there was a new bass. When everyone was there at last, we all sat on chairs, each group (Bass, Tenor, Alto [lower-voiced girls] and Soprano [the opposite]) alone.

Sister M started the session by welcoming me into the choir, and I received polite applause from everyone. I didn’t notice this, but I was actually the only one who tried out.

We then went into respiration and relaxation exercices. These were fun.

Not as fun as the vocal exercices, though. These were amazing. Hearing everyone sing at once, it was close to magical. I couldn’t believe I was a part of that.

I had some trouble at first adjusting to the right keys, but I quickly recovered.

Then, it was time to learn a new song. She gave us the music sheets, and each group was off to learn it alone, because as I came to know we don’t all sing the same tunes.

As it was my first time, I had some problems singing the right notes at certain places. But they were all very patient and encouraging with me, not once did they seem annoyed or amused, and they told me that this was a hard song compared to the usual (though I feel like they were just trying to raise my spirits).

But it did pay off, and I finally reached those tricky notes. I felt very pleased with myself.

Usually, after learning a song, we were supposed to sing it all together (the four groups), but that day was an exception because they were having elections for choir president and assistants. The president and his crew from last year had prepared a nice little ceremony involving funny sketches and a buffet, and I thought their spirit was awesome. I was happy to be part of such a community.

I told Mini about that, and he said ‘I know. This is the only place at school that I really like.’

I then understood why he wanted us here. And I’m very, very glad I joined.
